Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government

The Department of Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government supports the Australian Government’s commitment to improve social, economic and environmental outcomes for Australia’s regions. An integral part of this commitment is developing ongoing partnerships with regional communities and local government to inform regional policies, programs and investments.
To help achieve this, the Department is working closely with Regional Development Australia (RDA), a partnership between Australian, State, Territory and local governments to strengthen regional communities. RDA consists of a national network of 55 committees around Australia who work with their communities to find ways to deal with the economic, social and environmental issues affecting them.
The Department has also established the Australian Government's National Disaster Recovery Taskforce, which provides strategic direction and oversight of the recovery effort during natural disasters such as floods, cyclones and earthquakes. The Department also administers the Australian Government’s work in the territories of Australia, including the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, the Coral Sea Islands, Jervis Bay Territory and Norfolk Island.
